WFP Partners with the UAE’s 100 Million Meals Campaign to Distribute 28 Million Meals to Palestine

DUBAI — The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), as a strategic partner of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has successfully distributed 28 million meals to beneficiaries across Palestine as part of the UAE’s 100 Million Meals campaign. The campaign, organized by MBRGI, provided vital food assistance to over 310,000 people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, offering crucial relief to vulnerable communities in need.

In the West Bank, the campaign reached 103,000 individuals across 11 governorates through instant e-vouchers worth $2 million. These e-vouchers enabled more than 17,000 families to purchase essential food items from over 130 certified stores. Meanwhile, in Gaza, the campaign supported 207,385 individuals in five governorates, benefiting 34,564 families for a full month. In addition to food assistance, the campaign also supported local projects, retail stores, farmers, and women’s cooperatives, helping to strengthen Gaza’s unstable economy.

The Gaza Strip, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, continues to face significant challenges, with 70 percent of families experiencing food insecurity. Despite these hardships, WFP, in partnership with the 100 Million Meals campaign, was able to overcome access difficulties and deliver essential food support to these vulnerable communities.

“The 100 Million Meals campaign has successfully distributed a large number of meals in Palestine and was able to reach tens of thousands of beneficiaries in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in spite of all logistical complications”. Said Sara Al Nuaimi, Director at MBRGI stated, she added, “The 100 Million Meals campaign added 19 million meals for Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of meals distributed in Palestine to 28 million meals.”

Mageed Yahia, WFP Director in the UAE and Representative to the GCC, expressed gratitude, saying: “As we mark the completion of the food distribution to 310,385 beneficiaries in Gaza and in the West Bank, on behalf of WFP and tens of thousands of beneficiaries we express our thanks and gratitude to Mohammed Bin Rashid Global initiatives (MBRGI).”

The 100 Million Meals Campaign strengthens the long-standing partnership between WFP and MBRGI to end world hunger. It demonstrates the power of public support in creating a world with Zero Hunger. As one of the region's largest food drives, the campaign reflects the UAE's commitment to ending hunger and supporting vulnerable communities. In partnership with WFP, the Food Banking Regional Network, and other partners, it provides vital aid to refugees, displaced individuals, and underprivileged families across four continents.

About the 100 Million Meals Initiative

To carry out the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign, the MBRGI is collaborating with the WFP, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, the Food Banking Regional Network, and local charity organizations and authorities in the 30 beneficiary countries. With the help of 12 food banks and nine humanitarian institutions, MBRGI ensures food parcels, carrying basic food items, are delivered to the doorstep of vulnerable communities in 30 countries. The ‘100 Million Meals’ concluded in May with more than double its target, raising donations to provide food parcels, equivalent to 216 million meals, in less than a month.  The campaign is part of the UAE’s active contribution to global efforts to urgently tackle hunger and malnutrition, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
