This report provides a preliminary analysis of the socio-economic impacts of the current political crisis in Niger.

On July 26, 2023, a coup d’état took place in Niger. As a result, on July 30, commercial and financial sanctions were issued by ECOWAS and WAEMU. Immediately following the coup, most development partners paused or suspended their development assistance. This report provides a preliminary analysis of the socio-economic impacts of those events. It is work-in-progress, jointly carried out by the World Bank and the World Food Programme during September 2023, based on data available to the two organizations. The report will be updated as the situation evolves.
