- Refugees from Burundi continue to cross the borders into neighboring countries. Since the beginning of April, more than 175,000 Burundians have arrived in the DRC, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
- Food stocks are stretched and WFP requires immediate contributions to meet the needs of vulnerable people in Burundi as well as new arrivals and existing refugees in the four countries. In particular, the Rwanda operation faces a pipeline break starting in October.
- Blanket supplementary feeding, already underway in Rwanda and Tanzania, begins in Burundi in August.
- WFP continues to support refugees from Burundi at border crossings, reception centres and camps. In addition, nutrition activities are ongoing to rehabilitate those who are malnourished and to prevent further deterioration of malnutrition levels.
- In Tanzania, congestion in camps is of concern. Negotiations with authorities on land access are ongoing.
