  • Effective 01 October, WFP has begun implementing the new Emergency Operation, EMOP 200890. The EMOP will aim to assist 2 million people per month through in-kind food assistance, while envisaging the introduction of market-based interventions through cash and voucher (C&V) transfers starting in November. The EMOP will also provide nutritional support to treat and prevent moderate acute malnutrition among 235,000 children under 5 and 106,200 malnourished pregnant and nursing women, as well as provide emergency school feeding to 500,000 school-age children. There are plans to eventually reach a total of 4 million beneficiaries per month by March 2016.
  • In September, 2,008,900 people received 23,120 mt of emergency food assistance in 13 governorates. In October so far, and under the new EMOP, WFP has reached 242,700 people in five governorates with 2,000 mt of emergency food assistance.
  • The nutrition situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate. According to WFP’s market analysis for September, prices of all food commodities spiked in September as a result of the escalation of the conflict in recent weeks. The national average price of wheat flour in September was 45 percent (over 100 percent in Taiz) higher compared to the pre-crisis period, while the national monthly average cost of a partial food basket is 30 percent higher than the average pre-April level.
