Drought in the Horn of Africa has compounded the suffering and destitution of millions of people. This means that more than 14 million people are in need WFP food assistance - and the overall number may well explode.
General food distributions continue and food was provided to 12,600 IDPs and the local population in the affected areas today. So far, WFP food assistance has reached 137,100 people.
WFP is providing food to more than 220,000 persons displaced by conflict in southern Mindanao. WFP has so far dispatched some 650 metric tons of rice to 160,000 displaced families from Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte and North Cotabato.
