Statement On WFP Liberia Building Fire

Published on 15 January 2015

On the evening of January 13, a fire broke out in the basement of the World Food Programme (WFP) Liberia’s main office in Mamba Point, Monrovia.

All staff were promptly evacuated and no one was hurt.
WFP commends the Liberia National Fire Service Bureau and UNMIL for their quick and efficient response. Thanks to their timely intervention, the fire was controlled and extinguished.
WFP is assessing the extent of the damage to the building. We are doing our very best to ensure that the incident will cause as few delays as possible to our operations.
Since August, WFP has provided support to care for Ebola patients and survivors, and to support almost 20,000 isolated households and to more than 690,000 persons in areas of intense and widespread transmission.
WFP also plays a major role in ensuring the movement of partner staff and equipment, and providing logistical services and infrastructure support for health partners.
