World Food Programme Executive Director Visits Brazil To Launch Centre Of Excellence Against Hunger

Josette Sheeran, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme  (WFP), the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, will make an official visit to Brazil on Monday 7 November 2011.

SALVADOR DE BAHIA-- On Monday, along with senior government officials and the Governor of Bahia, she will officially launch the new Centre of Excellence Against Hunger

The Centre of Excellence, located in the capital city of Brasilia, will assist governments in Africa, Asia, and Latin America by drawing upon the expertise of WFP and Brazil in the fight against hunger, while promoting sustainable school feeding models and other food and nutrition safety nets from across the world. 

The same day, in Salvador de Bahia, Sheeran will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Brazilian Cooperation Agency and address the   fourth National Council of Food and Nutritional Security the foremost food security event in Brazil, where she will acknowledge Brazil’s leadership in the fight against hunger at home and abroad.
