WFP And The National Institute For Civil Defence Organize A Workshop On The Usage Of Humanitarian Unmanned Aerial Vehicles In Emergencies
The objective is to create an interactive forum with national operators, including humanitarian organizations, government officials and technical experts who will exchange information, experiences and suggestions for future cooperation and coordination in the usage of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in emergencies.
The workshop will also include a review of the participants' experiences during the recent floods in the country caused by the coastal El Niño, focusing both on identifying bottlenecks for the use of UAVs as well as possible improvements to regulatory constraints.
WFP is currently developing a coordination framework for humanitarian UAVs to provide guidance on their implementation during emergency response. Therefore, the workshop counts on the participation of operators, pilots, data analysts, as well as telecommunications and emergency response specialists utilizing UAVs.
WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Each year, WFP assists some 80 million people in around 80 countries.
